The statement here that one of the Burton Latimer coins was destroyed is at variance with Lawrence Cope's own writings that none could be spared for destructive analysis. The Gordian III coin was indeed destructively analysed and in time discovered to be a forgery - it was the subject of his 1967 paper published in Metallurgia.
